Teaching Philosophy
Dance education is for everyone. The dance classroom should be a welcoming and inclusive space for all individuals, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, ability, religion, or background. When teaching, it is important to prepare students for whatever path they choose to pursue in life. Dance offers students the opportunity to develop a wide variety of skills beyond physical movement techniques. I want my students to understand how multifaceted dance can be, just as they are multifaceted individuals who come into every experience with their own backgrounds. Not one dance style, genre, or technique is better than another, and however a dancer chooses to express themselves in the art form can be valid and understood. I enjoy tailoring my teaching content to my students based on their strengths, areas of improvement, and interests in order to engage my students in their own learning. I aim to instill in my students the skills, knowledge, agency, and self-confidence to take with them into their future endeavors, even if that is not performing professionally.
